Soaring scholarships are available both from Youth Flight Canada, and the Soaring Association of Canada.  York is a particularly good soaring site for students, as we have a number of facilities specifically geared towards them.  We offer cabin, and trailer accommodations such the both males, females, youths and those with disabilities can be served.  As well, we have accessible showering, and cooking facilities.  We also have a range of gliders that meet the needs of beginning pilots and a 7-days-a-week flying operation in the summer.

Selection Criteria:

The applicant must:

•Be a licensed glider pilot.
•Be between 16 and 26 years of age
•Have an infectious enthusiasm for gliding
•Be a full time student with good grades
•Render volunteer effort to the club as do all members.

The amount of the scholarship is $1000. Preference may be given to previous club members.

Successful applicants will receive the value of the scholarship in their member account. The scholarship may be used to pay for flying costs. In recognition of receiving the scholarship, York Soaring Association will reduce your youth membership fee to $50 (plus HST). Once your scholarship has been exhausted, you are then responsible for the payment of 100% of your flying costs. York Soaring also requires club members to be members of the Soaring Association of Canada. Membership is free for youth 18 and under and $50 for youth age 19-25. The Soaring Association of Canada offers a limited number of bursaries to youth pilots and recipients of a scholarship from YFC qualify to apply for funding from SAC if they plan to purchase an unlimited flight time package to maximize their time building. Scholarship recipients may also camp overnight at York Soaring free of charge and are entitled to free air time in the ASK-21 owned by YFC for soaring mentoring flights as well as free air time in the 1-34 to build hours and practice soaring skills.
