Our flight simulator was built to meet both outreach and training requirements for our flight training program for disabled pilots. Since our hand-controlled equipped glider is a Krosno KR03A, we built the simulator based on this cockpit.

The simulator itself runs with a full set of electronic instruments, and a electric motion platform which is run by the commercially available X-Planes software. We use conventional projection techniques to display a 6 foot wide image, and provide the pilot with three-axis controls, pitch trim, and spoilers.

The simulator has been used with both able bodied and disabled pilots for ab-initio training, outreach programs at various shows and museums (including the Toronto Aerospace Museum, and the National Aviation Museum in Ottawa), and will be featured on the Discovery Channel in the near term. It has also proved useful in new instructor training. It has been a very worthwhile addition to our training programs.
